Why

Meet Dr. Lauren E. Hazzouri

Let me take an opportunity to introduce myself. In order to do a good job of having you understand who I am as a clinician, I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Scranton, PA, and I love Scranton. I love the people. I love the architecture, and when it comes right down to it, it’s home, and nothing can beat that. I am so glad to see so much of our city being revitalized, and I’m fortunate to have my office right in the heart of downtown Scranton (next door to the Radisson at Lackawanna Station), where Hazzouri Dentistry has been keeping Scranton Smiling beautifully for years. Growing up in Scranton as the only girl with three brothers, I was certainly never at risk of taking myself too seriously. I went to grade school in Scranton and graduated from Scranton Preparatory School, where I was involved in The Scranton Prep Players and cheerleading. Most of my time, however, was spent at The Dance Studio, home of The Ballet Theater of Scranton, where I danced as much as possible, as that seemed to be my best or most direct source of self-esteem at the time. I was fortunate to spend many of my summers away at various dance schools, including The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, where I spent the summer before my junior year of high school and returned after my sophomore year of college to teach. I later graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The Pennsylvania State University, where I was an Evan Pugh Scholar with a major in Psychology. After receiving a remarkable education in the happy valley, I moved back to Scranton to do my graduate work at Marywood University, where I earned my Masters in Psychology and continued on to complete my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Following graduation, I was a psychology resident under the supervision of Dr. John Harvey and Dr. Jennifer Mecchas at Allied Services. I am grateful to have been trained by our areas “tried and true”, when it comes to educational and psychological testing. In order to gain my clinical experience for licensure, I worked under the supervision of Dr. Carl Schuster, who specializes in children and adolescents in his private practice in Peckville, PA. Currently, I teach a practicum course at Marywood University, and I work as a licensed psychologist and owner of Hazzouri Psychology. I spend the majority of my time, when I am not in the office with my daughter, Ava. Since having Ava, I have been able to look at life much differently. I see the world all over again through her fresh, excited, interested eyes. At the same time, I have the gift of coupling that with my experience, making for a perspective on life that makes everything pretty simple. And yes, I did say that life doesn’t have to be that hard, and if, at times, it feels hard for you, then you’re probably interested in knowing a little bit about my theoretical perspective and the different strategies I employ to help people and families heal.
