A Special Note from Lauren

I just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know that I am honored that you are considering me to partner with you to help you and/or your child. What I do here at Hazzouri Psychology is not simply my career, but it has more so become who I am. I can, honestly, tell you that I will work very hard with you to help you to meet your goals. I am very fortunate to have the education, research and training to be able to so. However, I can tell you that a lot of what I know is based on my own experiences.

I read a book several years ago called “If I knew then, what I know now…”. The book is a compilation of letters written by very accomplished women from former secretary of state, Madeline Albright, to fashion designer, Eileen Fisher. These women wrote letters to their former, more naïve selves at a time in their life, when life didn’t seem so easy. Each of them began their letter with the phrase “If I knew then, what I know now this is what I would say…” I thought it such an amazing concept that I immediately sat down to write a letter to my former, more naïve self, until I realized that I would only being solidifying in my own mind the many realizations that helped me to move beyond that difficult time. Instead of writing myself a letter, I decided to open Hazzouri Psychology to share with you and your children the skill sets that can help you to move beyond your difficult time.

I have had many life experiences. I have played many roles and learned a lot through trial and error. I am a woman. I am a mom. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a friend. I can assure you that my education, research, and training coupled with my life experiences have molded me into a person that has the ability to understand you and/ or your child and join with you to maximize strengths, minimize weaknesses, and embrace the outcome with vigor!

I encourage you to take the next right step for you and/or your child and give Hazzouri Psychology a call. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you. I promise to hold you and/ or your child in the highest regard possible.

Sincerely,
Dr. Lauren Hazzouri

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE OFFICE LIKE?

Hazzouri Psychology provides an environment that is comfortable and private. The offices are newly decorated. There is ample waiting room space. Parking is easy and free of charge, and the building is handicap accessible.

HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS THERAPY?

Hazzouri Psychology holds your privacy in high regard. All licensed psychologists adhere to a code of ethics with strict requirements for maintaining client confidentiality. Contact with outside professionals, schools, insurance companies, and even other family members is made only with your permission. Since Scranton and the surrounding area seems to get smaller each day, it is not extra ordinary for Dr. Hazzouri to see a client outside of therapy, walking through the mall or even at a local movie theater. In such an instance you can be rest assured that your privacy is not at risk. In an effort to keep your confidentiality and provide you with the standard of care that you deserve, Dr. Hazzouri does not speak to clients outside the office, unless spoken to.

HOW LONG DOES THERAPY TAKE?

Therapy sessions are generally about 50 minutes in length. Hazzouri Psychology provides short – term interventions as well as long – term treatment. Some clients need only a few sessions to meet their goals for treatment, while others continue in therapy for an extended period of time in an effort to resolve long-standing issues.

WHAT IF I DON’T REALLY NEED THERAPY?

In the initial phone conversation, Dr. Hazzouri is most times able to determine that therapy might not be necessary at this time or that seeing a different type of professional might be more beneficial. Other times, Dr. Hazzouri makes a decision with the client (or parents) after an initial consultation that therapy may not be indicated. Regardless, Dr. Hazzouri provides recommendations and additional resources. Many children and adults who see Dr. Hazzouri for therapy are in fact in the “normal range.” However, they are looking to feel happier, get along better at work, school, or home, or to improve their parenting and the behavior of their children.

WHAT IF THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PRACTICE FOR ME?

In the first phone consult, Dr. Hazzouri will determine if she is well suited to help with the concerns you are describing. If she does not specialize in the need that you have, she is connected with other professionals in the area and will be happy to help you find a better fit.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICATION?

Psychologists do not prescribe medication. Hazzouri Psychology attempts to partner with you to help you to meet your goals through discussion and problem-solving strategies. However, some of clients also take medication to help improve their symptoms. If Dr. Hazzouri feels that medication can be helpful, she will help you to arrange a medication consultation with a physician. If you would like to explore this option, Dr. Hazzouri has good relationships with many psychiatrists in the area and is happy to help with an appropriate referral for consultation and possible treatment. Some clients prefer to see their primary care physician about medication, which she can also help facilitate.

WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER CHILDREN WITH ME WHEN I BRING MY CHILD?

There is ample waiting room space and plenty of children’s books and toys.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Hazzouri Psychology sets fees at the average rate for doctoral level psychologists in private practice in the area. Like many psychologists in the area, Dr. Hazzouri is not an in-network provider (co-pay). However, she is partially covered as an out-of-network provider for nearly all insurance companies. Clients pay at the time of the session, and Dr. Hazzouri provides a receipt that contains the information needed for submission for insurance reimbursement.

WHAT IF I NEED OUTSIDE HELP

Dr. Hazzouri works in close connection with respected psychiatrists and other local physicians, as well as school counselors, speech and language pathologists, dieticians, educational advocates, and other professionals. Dr. Hazzouri maintains connections with other local psychologists in case she is not well suited to meet your needs.

WHAT IF MY CHILD OR TEEN DOESN’T WANT TO COME?

Many children and teens would not come in, if parents did not force the issue. However, once the child or teen meets Dr. Hazzouri, she/ he usually has a change of heart. Dr. Hazzouri is skilled at making children and teens feel comfortable and at conveying that this alliance is about meeting her/ his goals.
Also, parents can rest easy upon arrival at the office. Parents don’t have to make their child or teen participate, that’s Dr. Hazzouri’s job.

HOW MUCH IS IT?

Please call HAZZOURI PSYCHOLOGY to get an answer (570-344-4111). The fees at Hazzouri Psychology are in line with fees of other doctoral level psychologists in Northeastern, PA.
In factoring cost issues, it is important to consider the value you place on being free from the problem that you are considering partnering with Dr. Hazzouri to alleviate.
